Flora Wood


Flora Wood was born at Portobello, near Edinburgh and studied at Edinburgh College of Art under William Gillies and later with Andre Lhote in Paris. She met Picasso in 1939, who was to become a notable influence, and from the 1940s she showed at the Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts and other institutions. Scottish Arts Council sponsored a solo show in 1970 at Citizen’s Theatre, Glasgow. Another followed at Lillie Gallery, Milngavie in 1979 and England & Co, London in 1989. Scottish Arts Council and Kelvingrove Gallery, Glasgow hold her work.
