2021 Modern Art

(William) Ross Robinson was a self-taught artist from Hamilton, Ontario who gave up an advertising career in the 1950s to paint the snowy landscapes of the Canadian north in a style verging on the abstract.

He exhibited his paintings at White Horse, Yukon at a time when that city had a raw, frontier feel to it but found a more appreciative audience in 1958 at his first solo show in the capital Ottawa at Robertson Galleries. Robinson would continue an association with Robertson Galleries through the 1960s.
