Artist Biography

1925-2018

Ida Barbarigo studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice under her father Guido Cadorin, a noted modernist painter. In 1944 she met the artist Zoran Music, whom she was later to marry, and in 1952 she settled in Paris, whilst retaining a base in Venice. She exhibited at the Salon de Mai in 1955 and had a major solo exhibition in 1960 in Yugoslavia, first in Rijeka then travelling to Ljubljana and Zagreb. Barbarigo went on to exhibit in Venice, Milan, Bologna, Basel, London (a 1971 show at the Grosvenor Gallery) and Paris.

Barbarigo painted on a number of themes but her favourite was of cafe chairs in a semi-abstract style. A major retrospective was held in Valencia, Spain in 2004 and The Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art held a joint exhibition of Barbarigo and Music’s work in 2011.
